How much gold is in a bag?
Honest answer, with real numbers: gold is trading around £100 a gram (July 2026), so nobody's £40 bag holds anything close to a gram — anyone promising that is selling pyrite. For scale, Scotland's best-known paydirt seller charges £52 a bag with a 0.25g guaranteed minimum (about £25 of metal at spot). Our bags are priced the same honest way: the £39.99 Paydirt Bag is seeded with genuine natural gold flake in fair proportion to what you paid, and the £99.99 Motherlode carries several times more, including pieces big enough to pick up with your fingers. Exact seeding varies bag to bag — we guarantee the gold is real and worth panning, and we'd rather under-promise than invent a weight.
Is the gold real?
Yes — natural gold, the real thing. Not brass filings, not "fool's gold" pyrite, not plated flake. It behaves in the pan exactly like the gold you'd work out of a Scottish burn, because it is the same material.
What's different about the Motherlode bag?
Same gravel, same guarantee — seeded much heavier. Where the standard bag guarantees natural flake, the Motherlode carries several times the gold and bigger pieces: chunky flake and proper pickers you can lift out with your fingers rather than a snuffer bottle. At today's gold price (~£100/g) that's the tier where the metal itself starts to matter. Only 10 exist in batch one.
When will my bag arrive?

What kit do I need to pan it?
A gold pan and a washing-up bowl (or any big tub) of water — that's it. No classifier needed, the material is already screened. See our equipment guide for pan options, and the Beginner's Pack PDF that comes with your order walks you through the technique.
Do I get to keep the gold? Don't I need a permit?
It's yours, completely. Permits, landowner permission and Crown rules apply to gold recovered from rivers in the wild — this gold is bought and paid for, so none of that applies. It's the one way to pan British-style gold with zero paperwork.
Is this a subscription?
No — it's a one-off payment for one bag. It doesn't touch your map access either: the interactive map (£29.99 lifetime) is a separate thing entirely.
